Get Your Chill On ... Kick Back!

Get Your Chill On ... Kick Back!

Relaxing in Hammock Heaven

Spring is coming and the rising temperatures have you anxious to get outside.  You are ready to enjoy those warm rays of sun and still feel the cool breeze as you lie back and relax.  Sound impossible?  It’s easy, buy a hammock.  They are easy to setup and take down and can be setup almost anywhere outside where you have two sturdy trees within about 12 feet of each other.  Some of the most relaxing evenings can be spent swinging and sleeping in a hammock.  Take your hammock with you to the park, camping or just your backyard.  I have taken my hammock with me while mountain biking and stopped to enjoy a relaxing time just enjoying the peace and quiet of a secluded spot.  For anyone looking to camp in the warmer months, a hammock is a good option because it allows you to fully experience the coolness of nightfall without setting up a tent.  You may want to add a bug net to your setup once the insects become problematic. Also, only do this if there is no chance of rain or you’ll need additional equipment.  We’ll keep it simple for now.

There are many options for hammocks these days and the basic setup is quick and easy.  Basically, you can choose a Single-nest Hammock for one person or a wider Double-nest Hammock for two adults.  The double-nest is a great option for one person as well because you get extra material to cover yourself or give more freedom of movement.  I recommend the Eno Doublenest.  It's just a few dollars more but you get added flexibility.

Next you need to have the suspension straps that will loop around the trees you will use to hang your hammock.  Remember, the hammock will not automatically come with straps.  You will need to purchase them in addition to the hammock.  The easiest and sturdiest straps to use with your Eno Hammock are the Eno Atlas Hammock Suspension system.  They are a breeze to use and have built in loops to hang your hammock.  Just attach the D rings from each end of your hammock to the loops in the Atlas straps.

If insects are a concern then try adding the ENO Guardian Bug Net to your setup. This creates a cocoon for you, away from the mosquitos.

Now pay attention, This is the most important part.

Do the following (choose one or many or all):

  • Watch the kids play and run themselves ragged while you kick back
  • Surf the web
  • Drink a cold beer (or warm wine if you're so inclined)
  • Read a book
  • Call your friends and shame them for sitting indoors
  • Sleep
  • Listen to some music or an audio book
  • Sleep again
  • Listen to nothing
  • etc… You get the point!!

There you have it.  No more excuses for not enjoying a beautifully sunny day outdoors.  Even if you just want to kick back and chill.  Trust me, the kids will love it too!
